ABOUT US
Dr. Marianne O'Byrne
Registered Clinical Psychologist
As a Registered Psychologist and Clinical Director at Thrive Psychology and Wellness Centre, I am here to guide you through life’s most complex and difficult matters.
I work with clients virtually across all of Ontario. I particularly enjoy helping those with:
– Anxiety, depression, and relationship issues
– Prenatal and postpartum transition difficulties, including birth trauma, grief and loss
– PTSD and other difficulties related to traumatic experiences
I help clients understand and address their difficulties by focusing on unmet emotional needs, building on existing strengths to improve resilience and emotion regulation skills, and paying attention to the interplay of thoughts, physical reactions, and behavior. In doing so, I empower clients to cope more effectively with life’s struggles and to experience a greater quality of life aligned with their values and roots.
Primarily, I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). I also apply elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema-focused Therapy and Mindfulness-based approaches when appropriate. I adopt a flexible approach to meet clients’ individual needs and treatment goals and can offer treatment in French.
Outside of work and school, I am a proud mother of three wonderful and energetic children. I find peace and grounding in nature through being by and on the water, gardening, and enjoying outdoor activities, such as hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing.

I approach my role as a psychotherapist from a client-centered perspective that is non-judgmental and holistic. I emphasize that clients are much more than their presenting problems and challenges, while I foster a safe, empathetic environment in which to address them. My aims in session are tailored to each client and their goals for therapeutic change, with particular attention to recognizing limiting thought patterns, developing self-compassion around difficult thoughts and emotions, and collaborating on sustainable techniques for coping with stressors.
My work is based primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and is informed by narrative therapy and mindfulness approaches. I welcome clients of all backgrounds, and have particular experience working with 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. I look forward to addressing experiences of depression, anxiety, stress, and other concerns in collaboration with clients.

Every individual is unique and therefore requires an individualized and holistic approach. I work from a strengths-based perspective to build on the skills and knowledge you already have to improve your mental health and wellness. You are the expert in your own life, and my goal is to support you in understanding your thoughts, feelings and beliefs and how they contribute to your struggles and successes. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a vital part of therapy and strive to provide a comfortable and safe space for you to share and explore your thoughts, feelings and feedback.
I work primarily from a cognitive behavioural perspective and also borrow techniques from solution-focused therapy, emotionally-focused therapy and mindfulness. I support adults (18+), and I have a particular interest in serving parents in the prenatal and postpartum periods.
I look forward to working with you on your therapeutic journey.

I offer a therapeutic space where individuals can expect to feel accepted and safe to share anything that they bring into therapy. My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive. I respect the individuality of each person and will adapt my style to find an approach that fits best for you.
My personal clinical interests focus on the experiences of pregnant and postpartum women, families navigating challenges of starting a family, those that have experience with trauma, and individuals with Panic Disorder, OCD, and phobias.

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) under
the supervision of Dr. Marianne O’Byrne
I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I have worked as a Primary Care Paramedic with the City of Ottawa for over a decade. Before being a first responder, I worked in sales within the hospitality field for various Canadian resorts and hotels. Fast forward 15 years later, my journey with PTSD and depression has instilled in me a profound understanding of operational stress injuries and mental health challenges faced by public safety personnel. Advocating for mental health awareness and supporting first responders is my unwavering passion.
As a grad student in my therapy practice, I use a collaborative approach that includes the tools from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, strength-based therapies, and mindfulness. My areas of focus are trauma and PTSD (including First Responders and their loved ones), anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life transitions, and stress management. I offer counselling services at a reduced rate to clients. I also accept couples. I’m dedicated to tailoring my services to align with your needs and values.
Outside of being a therapist, I am a mom to one super awesome kiddo and one chill dog. I love traveling, golfing, snowboarding, working out, and spending quality time with my husband and our little family.
One of my favourite motivational speakers, Mel Robbins puts it well by saying, “You can’t change what you refuse to confront.” So, let’s talk.
